A volunteer experience in Ananda Kalyani

Inspiring words from a special volunteer from Asheville, US:

“…I came to Portugal seeking to gain new experiences on a community based, self sustainable, eco-village model with permacultural and spiritual ideologies. I wanted to learn ways that I could serve the earth and humanity, as well as grow spiritually, while helping an upcoming Master Unit get started. I am happy to say that my wishes were fulfilled in the valley of Ananda Kalyani. The setting is breath taking, from the deep blue waters of the river flowing through the land, to the spectacular view of the mountain ranges on the top of the cherry tree´s terraced slopes. The view of the mountains from the volunteer house in the village of Paul is also a favorite of mine.

The whole team of people involved in the project is dedicated, hard-working, and as friendly as family. Dada, who runs the Volunteers House and oversees several projects here, is an inspiring leader, a very knowledgeable and devoted practitioner of yoga and meditation with many years of experience teaching both, and most excellent cook and nutritionist who can prepare delicious vegetarian world fusion cuisine, and make it extremely healthy at the same time. The land we are developing is beautiful and fertile with incredible potential.

All the facilities are perfectly suitable for any and all needs. The Volunteers House is very welcoming and spacious, including plenty of living quarters, full kitchen, fireplace, hot water, and other amenities. Ananda Café, located in the historic city center of Covilhã, is a great place to socialize over a cup of coffee or more delicious vegetarian food. There is also perfectly situated Yoga Room above Ananda Café where many greats programs are held such as yoga classes, meditation classes, cultural evenings, and many more. I had a fantastic time here, and would certainly recommend a visit to volunteer to everyone, especially if you are interested in vegetarianism, and/or a spiritual yogic meditation lifestyle…
